Jody Thomas

Jody is the Director of Visual Design at EightShapes, designing compelling experiences that achieve business objectives while delighting users. Jody has created interfaces across multiple media–online, software, mobile, tablet, and even 10-foot large touch screens.

During her career she led teams and large scale redesigns at AOL working on their desktop software, portal and destination websites and most recently their mobile applications. Prior to AOL she designed websites for Discovery Channel and TLC’s daytime shows and hosts.

Jody graduated with a BFA in Advertising Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She is strongly influenced by the bold, graphic styles of the International Style of design which originated in Switzerland but also loves the chaos of David Carson and photographer David Lachappelle. Jody’s favorite typeface is DIN Engschrift but has a soft spot for Emigre’s Mrs. Eaves when a serif is needed.

An active participant in the DC Design Community, Jody most recently led panels at both NPR’s DUXCamp and Digital Capital Week facilitating a discussion on Mobile Design.
